Disney + Targets Your Wallet With New Marvel TV Shows

JeremyRennerTheAvengers031512_0

As reported here on Out Of Dave’s Head last September, Disney/Marvel are planning a bunch of limited run TV shows with characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, played by their respective movie actors, to help the entire world decide to subscribe to its new streaming channel, Disney +, launching in late 2019.

Alongside the already announced shows for Loki (with Tom Hiddleston) and Scarlet Witch (with Elisabeth Olsen), word came down the pipeline recently of a Falcon & Winter Soldier show (starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan).

Now Variety are reporting that Marvel are developing a Hawkeye limited series, running six to eight episodes and starring Jeremy Renner as the titular archer.

The article also says that the show will introduce the character of Kate Bishop, who became Hawkeye’s replacement for a while in the comic books, before going on to share the codename with Hawkeye’s alter-ego, Clint Barton.

The shows, to be produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, are expected to have larger budgets to similar television projects, and will be much more closely tied-in with the Marvel movies than the previous runs of Netflix shows, including Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

The channel launches with new shows from Marvel, Monsters Inc. (also featuring original voices, Billy Crystal and John Goodman), High School Reunion and, of course, the two highly anticipated live-action Star Wars shows, The Mandalorian and the Rogue One tie-in adventures of Cassian Andor, starring Diego Luna.

So I suggest submitting your will to Disney and giving them all your money now. Resistance will be futile as Disney take one more step towards world domination of your viewing habits.

Avengers: Endgame Trailer Most Exciting Yet!

thanos

Marvel have just dropped a “special look” (i.e. a trailer) to announce tickets for Avengers: Endgame going on sale worldwide. And oh boy, is it good…

The trailer… sorry, special look… has sent the internet into meltdown as it moves away from the dour feel of the previous two into something far more heroic and finally gives us our reintroduction to Josh Brolin’s big purple bad guy. Hang on, that sounded weird…

That this will be the culmination of 22 movies is quite the feat for Marvel and for fans (…hello…) it’s bound to be an emotional experience, before we head off into uncharted territory with the Phase 4 films (if you can call sequels to Spider-Man, Black Panther and Captain Marvel uncharted, of course).

Avengers: Endgame is released on 26th April for the rest of you poor schlubs, and two days before for us lucky so-and-sos here in Norway. So expect much crowing (but no spoilers, promise) on the 24th.

Also, expect the film to make all the money.

Want To See The Trailer For Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood…?

once-upon-a-time-in-hollywood-leonardo-dicaprio-dancing-1553087465

…sure you do! And since I hate to disappoint, here it is! Let’s come back and rap some after…

Well, doesn’t that look like a whole bunch of fun!?

Tarantino and co. have been doing a remarkable job of keeping plot specifics on this one under wraps, but here’s what we do know (via the official synopsis):

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his long-time stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognise anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbour… Sharon Tate.

Mixed into this will be a lot of famous faces of the period, including Steve McQueen, Bruce Lee and yep, Charles Manson.

The film stars… well, actually, it’s easier to ask who isn’t in it. But, sorry everyone, this won’t be Pauly Shore’s big chance at a comeback.

Look, it’s Tarantino’s 9th film. What else do you need to know!?

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood opens 26 July 2019 in the USA.

Sane World Rejoices As Disney Reinstates James Gunn For Guardians Of The Galaxy 3!

gunn

In an announcement sure to annoy the grimmer corners of the alt-right internet, but make the rest of us whoop with delight, Disney has reinstated James Gunn to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3 for Marvel!

Deadline have just dropped this very welcome bombshell, and while I’m sure we’ll hear more details in the run up to the May 24th release of the dark superhero film, Brightburn, produced by Gunn, I’m happy just to hear this news.

Gunn was fired by Disney when alt-right journalists decided to resurrect poor taste tweets Gunn made almost a decade earlier, and pile pressure on the Mouse House that the writer/director should not be heading up one of its biggest franchises. Sadly, Disney blinked and Gunn was fired.

The report in Deadline states that Marvel Studios never made serious overtures to anyone else regarding Gunn’s replacement and have obviously let things cool down before making this extremely sensible decision.

That decision was complicated by Gunn signing up to direct The Suicide Squad, a sequel/reboot of the critically demolished DC/Warner Bros movie from 2016, but it seems Marvel are willing to push back filming of their movie to accommodate him.

Whether or not you enjoy the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies (and I do, a whole bunch) Gunn was undeniably their heart and soul, and the thought of anyone else finishing off his trilogy with these characters was deeply disappointing, especially for such disheartening reasons.

Welcome back to Marvel, James Gunn! Score one for the good guy!

Bond 25 Filming In Norway – English Language Exclusive

bond filming

As reported, in Norwegian of course, by NRK today, more details about the filming of Bond 25 have leaked from a forest close to Oslo. I’m happy to bring this news to English language speakers.

In February news broke across Norwegian media that the production team of the new James Bond film, rumoured to be titled Shatterhand,  was building a lodge at Langvann, on the border between Oslo and Nittedal (about 25 minutes from the centre of Oslo).

Reports further announced the casting of a child actor, Maya Khosrowshahi, and that she had been employed for a scene where she is to shoot an intruder, before she is chased onto an ice lake by another intruder. This would certainly fit with the location and could be tied in with another rumour that the film will contain the first-ever flashback sequence in a Bond film (possibly involving a younger version of Léa Seydoux’s character from SPECTRE).

On Monday, local newspaper, Vårt Oslo, reported barriers and tents had been erected at Lutvann in Oslo, and speculated whether parts of the filming had been moved to this new location.

They also reported how former politician Steinar Saghaug had been met with brusque resistance from security guards at the barriers, who informed him they were carrying out “state water testing” to put him off the scent.

Sensing a little espionage was taking place, the local newspaper contacted the City Council to confirm the water testing only to be given a flat denial, but the council refused to comment further on what actually is taking place at the lake.

NRK report they have seen documents which reveal this section of filming will take place between March 25 and April 2.

To facilitate this, air traffic in the area will be restricted temporarily, as the production will use helicopters flying at low altitude and at high-speed. Permission has also been granted for the use of other motorized vehicles.

These filming dates are highly interesting, since rumours have been swirling around that Eon will hold the traditional commencement of filming Press Conference at the beginning of April, to formally confirm the film’s title amongst other details.

If this is the case, the commencement of filming announcement would be somewhat dubious if filming has already begun near Oslo.

This new Bond film is causing its own intrigue offscreen in Norway!

Bond 25, whatever it ends up being called, is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and is scheduled for release on April 8, 2020.

Avengers: Endgame Trailer – Marvel Plays A Smart Game

endgame

The latest (and final?) trailer for Avengers: Endgame has just dropped and I’m happy to say absolutely nothing is spoiled. Take a look for yourself (because we all know that’s what brought you here)…

Well, that’s quite the thing. Tears may roll.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige has stated that the trailers and promotion for the film will only contain material from the first twenty minutes or so of the movie, and even with that caveat there is nothing here but moody build and I have to say I love it.

There’s really little else to say, except I love Marvel’s understated promotion, and I’m pretty sure half the population of the world (see what I did there?) will be glued to cinema seats for this come April 26th.

See you there!

And Bond 25’s Title Is…

oo7

…Shatterhand?

Yeah, I get that’s a little click-baity, but this comes from a piece in industry resource, Production Weekly.

The title is already well-known to 007 fans, as the name Dr. Shatterhand appeared as an alias for Bond’s nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld in Ian Fleming’s You Only Live Twice  novel.

If the title is correct, and it’s been floating around the top of the Bond 25 rumour mill for quite a while, it throws open many questions including: will Blofeld return? If so, who will he be played by? Traditionally, Blofeld has been portrayed by a different actor (including Donald Pleasance, Telly Savalas and Charles Gray) on every appearance, but would Christophe Waltz be tempted back?

This possible confirmation comes hot on the heels of the news that the film’s release date has been pushed back to April 2020, due to extensive script rewrites. Bourne Ultimatum writer Scott Z Burns will be taking a pass at the screenplay for Daniel Craig’s fifth and final outing as 007. This in itself is probably good news, given the film’s many delays at the begining of production, with original director Danny Boyle backing off, to be replaced by Cary Joji Fukunaga.

Fukunaga has previously announced he expects Bond 25 to pick up on threads from SPECTRE, lending relevance to the meaning behind that possible title.

Craig will be reuniting with Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, and Naomie Harris, and we’ll be sure to bring you more Bond news as it drops.

John Wick 3 Trailer Has All The Violence

john-wick-3

Sometimes all a trailer needs to convince you to see the accompanying film is Keanu Reeves shooting a motorcyclist in the head at point-blank range while riding a horse. Which brings us handily to the trailer for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum…

The first John Wick film was an almost understated gem of an action movie, so effortlessly did it walk the line between absurdity and genius, while the second leaned further into the fascinating mythology surrounding retired/not retired hitman, the eponymous Wick (Reeves, obvs).

With that last film leaving our hero in an extremely perilous situation (recapped in this trailer), this third chapter looks to carry on with the breathless shenanigans.

Frankly, any film that has Reeves alongside a cast consisting of Halle Berry, Mark Dacascos, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Boban Marjanović, and Laurence Fishburne would have my attention. That it happens to be the third in the series of Wick movies has me practically salivating into the very large box of popcorn I have at the ready.

Mr Wick will be doing all the violence on May 17.

Marvel Launch New Captain Marvel Trailer

Brie-Larson-Captain-Marvel-Poster

Marvel Studios have given us an early Christmas-gift with a brand new trailer for Captain Marvel.

There’s a lot of fun new stuff in there, including a better look at the shape-shifting Skrulls, our first glimpse of Annette Bening and even an introduction to Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers’ pet cat, Chewie. It also leaves us in doubt just how much Marvel are going to be leaning into the cosmic side of their universe, with Captain Marvel roaring through space zapping spaceships.

As well as this latest trailer for the good Captain, there are plenty of rumblings that Marvel will drop a new trailer tomorrow for the still untitled Avengers 4, which at this rate will likely have the title card blacked out at the end. I’m kidding, of course, but only just.

And if that isn’t enough to fry your geek brain, there are even more rumours suggesting the trailer for Peter Parker’s adventures in Europe, a little film called Spider-Man: Far From Home may land on Thursday or Friday (possibly giving us our first glimpse of Jake Gyllenhaal’s villainous Mysterio).

Captain Marvel is released on March 8th, 2019, Avengers 4: Whatever It’s Called will follow two months later on May 3rd and Spider-Man: Far From Home lands July 5th.

What a time to be a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Feel free to let me have your thoughts on all of this, below…

Toy Story 4 Gets Forked!

toy story 4

Pixar/Disney have just dropped the teaser trailer for next summer’s Toy Story 4, and here it is for you:

Now, I’m not entirely certain the world needs another Toy Story movie (I have to admit to only seeing the last entry once, and I was ferociously drunk, which I fully agree may not have been the best way to appreciate its charms, however it does render my recall of it in particularly vivid tones), but I also have to admit to being happy to see these characters here.

The addition of the frankly surreal Forky character is a welcome bonus. The plot of Toy Story 4 spells out his role a little more:

Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called ‘Forky’ to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.

Toy Story 4 hits next summer (nine years after Toy Story 3), and will likely make all the money.
